Kamala addresses campaign team on 2 22 24
After the momentous event of President Biden announcing that he would not seek reelection in 2024 and endorsed in his place Vice President Kamala Harris, Kamala on 7.22.2024 went to Delaware to speak to President Biden's campaign team. Many video excerpts have appeared online of her time there, ranging from one minute in length to the full 18 minutes plus appearence. I found that the 5 minutes, 25 seconds compilation by TIME Magazine to be the most concise and abundant. It revealed a Kamala I have never seen before - vivacious, energetic, intelligent, bold and committed. I place it here for those who have not had a chance to see it. It is really exciting!

Highlights from our Puffin Adventure

We were incredibly fortunate to be able to land on Machias Seal Island 10 miles from Cutler Bay Maine, in perfect weather, i.e. soft rain combined with forgiving seas, to experience these magnificent creatures that remind me so much of the main character played by Giulietta Masina in Fellini’s “La Strada,” - so simultaneously beautiful and ungainly, their eyes so simultaneously clownish and sad...
Which America

As we debate immigration to the United States, it is worth seeing this scene from "It's a Big Country," filmed 66 years ago. Even though the film egregiously leaves out blacks and women, and gives only the tiniest reference to "Jews and Chinese," it still seeks to highlight that there is more than a simplistic view of "The American Culture." William Powell and James Whitmore are of course stand...

Olivier Tribute Montage

There are many fine honorary oscar presentations on youtube. One of the most richly deserved was for Laurence Olivier in 1978. During the presentation of the award, a montage was shown spanning Olivier's career. I remember watching it live, entranced by the range and diversity of all of the characters. Then at the end of the montage, Olivier appeared on stage, a modest, gentle man who looked no...

On the 150th anniversary of the Gettysburg Address, I am participating with the "Gettyready.org" website to celebrate with hopefully millions, the pivotal moment when "E Pluribus Unum" became a reality, when instead of saying "the United States are..." it became grammatically correct to say, "The United States is..." I just wish more people in our country share that dream today, and are more vo...

Obama Biden Victory 2012

There are many clips of Obama's victory speech on UA-cam, but I haven't seen any that showed Vice President Joe Biden coming on stage and hugging President Obama. Obama described Biden as a "happy warrior" and I agree. He is cast in the same mold as other heroes of mine - Hubert Humphrey and Jacob Javitz.

Dude with the exception of Montserrat Caballé nearly all other opera singers both old and new were actually very fit. Maria Callas, Sumi Jo, Mady Mesple, Anna Netrebko, Diana Damrau, Natalie Dessay, Sabine Devieilhe pop to mind. Also if you look at Joan Sutherland and Mado Robin in their younger years they were both skinny.

Taylor Swift has no talent and beautiful gown to wear. There is a difference between an audience of this time who attend an opera and plebs.

I've seen Professor Schickele a number of times since the early 1970s and each time was an "education". The last time I had the pleasure of seeing him was with the San Francisco Symphony. There were two or three couples sitting near me who must have been season ticket holders, because they had not heard of the professor, or P.D.Q. Bach. Seeing their reaction when being exposed to his music was worth the cost of the concert, without the joy of his music -- which was an added bonus, since the program included, Desecration of the House!

We saw Professor Schickele twice at Boston Symphony Hall in the 1980s-90s. He made his entrance by descending by a knotted rope from the first balcony on to the stage. It was quite memorable--and a bit unsettling. The second time we saw him, he was "late" and made his entrance by running down the aisle and sliding across the stage in belly-flop fashion. The audience and orchestra were convulsed with laughter for several minutes. Professor Shickele was a comedic genius and an accomplished musician of the highest order! May he rest in peace, surrounded by music and God's laughter.

I believe this is the same Lily Pons who translated a book version of a Jean Cocteau film, The Blood of the Poet. "It has often been my pleasure, in my career as a singer, to introduce to American audiences many unusual French songs..." Talented woman, yes.

Personally, i still regard Itzhak perkman as the greatest prodigy in the present age. To be honest, your childhood do encourage more people who have lost confidence to overcome their trouble. However, the most you have done changes the recognition from public about what is music totally. Exactly, Professor Peter Schickele has done more on this to make more people own interest on learning music.

Opening from the film “It’s a Big Country” (1951). Eight directors on eight vignettes. The film is a reflection of the time it was made, but good points about diversity that resonate today. William Powell & James Whitmore are great!

I Dream Too Much is a 1935 American romantic comedy film directed by John Cromwell. It stars Henry Fonda, Lily Pons, and Lucille Ball in one of her earlier roles. It has been described as a "somewhat wispy operetta." Songs are by Jerome Kern and Dorothy Fields. The film was nominated for an Academy Award in the category Sound Recording (Carl Dreher). The plot is ridiculous and the film failed at the box office.
